I’m an avid foursquare player, and finally got my JetSetter badge. I’m suprised I hadn’t earned it a while ago, but either way, good to have it be official.
For those of you who don’t play foursquare, or have never heard of it – it’s a fun game and neat way to track the places you’ve been, as well as find new places to explore. The game is installed on your GPS enabled smartphone, and you can do the following things with it:
- See where your friends last checked-in – and sometimes you’ll discover they are nearby, and you can meet up
- Discover what venues are nearby – you can check into nearby venues, or just browse the list of those venues (usually within walking distance) that you might want to check out
- Tips for nearby venues – insider tips on what to order, where to sit, etc.
- Earn badges (like the JetSetter one above) and become Mayor – You can become Mayor by checking-in to your favorite venues the most – the person with the most points (check-ins) at a particular venue is crowned Mayor. I have a few mayorships I’m proud of, from the local Audi dealership to my favorite Sushi joint.
Since the game is GPS enabled, it’s really fun for those on the go. The tips can sometimes be really useful, witty, or funny, and I like keeping a log of the places I’ve been.
For travelers, FourSquare is an awesome way to keep a “micro blog” of your travel habits – perfect for a travel blogger like me.
