There is nothing I hate more than having to pay for a rental car – the car I am accustomed to driving is always much nicer, and I’m already paying for it, so paying $50/day to drive a stripped down economy car hurts on several levels. I also don’t rent cars often, so when I do I have very few loyalty points built up and get stuck with the bottom of the barrel cars, usually something along the lines of a PT Cruiser or Dodge Neon…yuck!
Regardless, I’ve found a great way to save on rental cars…twitter. You don’t even need an account for this.
Go to Twitter.com and search for any of the following terms:
- rental car coupon
- rental car discount
- rental car code
One of those three should turn up some valid coupon codes for you to use on various rental car sites. If you have a company that you particularly like then search that company name + coupon/discount/code, such as “Enterprise discount” or “Avis coupon” and you should see results. Try to avoid the results that look particularly scammy, although for the most part they all usually work…if you really comb through the results you’ll find multiple coupons & discounts so be sure to look for the best deal of the bunch.
I’ve probably saved anywhere from $50-100 every time I rent a car using this trick – and it only takes a few seconds!
Behold, the power of the internet :)
Anyone else have any good tips for saving on rental cars?
